I stayed at Anand Homestay in early April 2026 for 11 days. I had a very serene, at the same time, adventurous experience in Kattappana. The owners of the homestay, Madhu and Jaya, were very gracious, welcoming and informative about trekking around the Iddukki area. Madhu even joined me on a steep hike up to Mettukuzhi View Point from behind his house. The photo with this review is from Mettukuzhu, not from the homestay. Madhu also introduced me to fruits from his orchard. I had booked the smallest room that is perfect for solo travellers. Its windows overlooked the forest. I loved listening to the forest in the night and enjoying the cool breeze from there. Kattappana is a hidden gem in Iddukki district. It is the perfect place to explore the district and Periyar Tiger Reserve (Thekkady). It is very well connected by public transport buses and not as commercial as places like Munnar. There are many treks up the hills that overlook the Iddukki reservoir that make it an ideal place for adventure. The weather was always cool staying under 30 degrees C in early April. I can absolutely see myself return to explore more!

We had a great stay at Anand homestay. The owners are very kind and gave us an amazing tour of their garden. Our room was good but a little hot as the fan wasn't the most effective. Some easy places to eat within walking distance.

I could have stayed here for a month if I had the chance. This is probably one of the best homestay we stayed in all Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The owner of the home is soooo nice and helpful and caring. If you get an opportunity to tour his gardens it's amazing. It's a very relaxing place, very calm and quiet. The town has a great little bookshop (Michaels Used Books). The temple right beside the home is also quite peaceful and nice. In front there's a nice shop that sells snacks. Loved our stay here.

ChatGPT recommended Anand Homestay to me as a place that would suit me well because of my love for plants Mr. Madhu and his wife, Mrs. Jayamol, welcomed me very warmly as a solo traveler. On the way here, I had injured my back badly and suffered a small fracture, but they kindly took me to the hospital and waited with me for hours during the examination. They are truly a very caring and gentle couple. The food is absolutely delicious. The room was the cleanest and most comfortable place I stayed during my time in India, and there was also hot water for the shower. There is a lovely, energetic dog as well. Behind the house and nearby, there are many organically grown plants. The owner truly loves plants and is currently working to promote organic farming in the local area. They also grow cardamom, which you can purchase. I highly recommend this place for anyone who loves plants.

Very pleasant stay. Madhu, the host, and his wife were very lovely and took good care of me. I got tea and water and even some self-made papaya beverage. Madhu showed me his garden and his orchard with so many tasty fruits. It was a great experience. Very close are several view points to see the Idukki reservoir and they are worth a visit, too!
